Microsoft Release Huge Yammer Update

New Yammer update revolutionises internal communication and finally gives businesses a chance to make everyone’s voice heard on neutral ground.

For many companies, the pandemic has meant pushing back plans, setting less adventurous timelines and postponing, well, virtually everything.

Not Microsoft though.

It was less than a year ago that they announced a new vision for their Yammer tool and though ‘New Yammer’ only launched in July 2020, they’ve already released the first update.

And it’s very good news for businesses like yours.

What is Yammer?

Yammer is a social networking tool that forms part of Microsoft 365 and it’s basically got superpowers. Yep, we’re calling it. These powers connect and engage users, facilitating better communication and engagement within your organisation – no matter where your users are working any day of the week.

Thanks to Yammer, you can engage your employees, align your staff on the things that are most important to you and drive your desired outcomes – more easily than ever before.

What’s included in the Yammer update?

The short answer is a lot. But this wouldn’t be a blog about the benefits to you unless we told you what’s what, so hold onto your hat because here goes…

The updates are great for making improvements across the board, starting with better engagement.

A new live events experience

You can create a more immersive experience for attendees to your live online events, as users can now post, ask questions and reply while they watch. Producers can also moderate any of the messages posted during a live event before they become visible to all attendees to save any awkward surprises!

More inclusive reactions

So much of modern communication relies on the images and emojis that accompany our words. For this reason, Microsoft have released more options alongside the “like” button, so users can better express their feelings and reactions as they communicate.

Searchable conversations in SharePoint and Office.com

Yammer conversations now appear in Microsoft Search results so you can find any topic, info, answer or person you’re looking for quickly, easily and in one place.

Upvote answers

You’ll be able to help democratize solutions and ideas within your business as users can upvote the responses they find most useful to any questions posed. Those answers will then rise to the top of the thread to be more viewable.

The update’s handy for community insights too…

New insight capabilities

You can also see which conversations are performing best with new insights into impressions, total views and click-throughs. You can manage and moderate content more quickly too, with key metrics to help you measure activity and engagement and pinpoint valuable analytics.

Better insights into live events

You can now monitor attendance and viewership to find out where your viewers are coming from and help you improve future events.

Trending topics lists

With new lists of trending topics you can stay on top of what’s most important in your community at any one time.

And it’s also great for creating a better experience that brings leaders and employees together…

Central deployment

You can now centrally deploy the community app in Teams to give users the whole experience, including desktop toast notifications for any mentions or announcements within your organisation.

Embedding

Very soon, you’ll be able to embed the updated Yammer into your web page now too. It can display a feed for a single user, entire community or single topic.

New leadership connection site template

Apply a built-in template to any site (e.g. the site backing your leadership connection community), to align conversation, news and resources across the organisation.

You can also customise certain aspects to reflect your brand, your voice and your needs, and configure policies to retain or delete content too.
